From humble beginnings with a second-hand welder, helping local farmers with repairs, making gates and trailers Roger Young has built up the business that now employs over 65 people and is approaching sales of 1,200 vehicles this year.
Roger applied for the franchise in 1983 and was awarded a Land Rover (Defender only) agreement with a target of five new vehicles per year. Now he is the largest Defender retailer in the UK, supplying the Environment Agency, ECC, Imerys, Western Power and many local business’s with vehicles, Roger's strength has always been to be able to understand their requirements and build special vehicles to suit the needs of their industry, including mobile welders, generation units and lubrication trucks, taking Land Rover back to its roots in 1948. We have now opened a specialist body conversion department that can bespoke a vehicle to any give use, from refrigerated units to cherry pickers, or for simple things like hand made load covers.
Over the 15 years at our Saltash site the staff have won many awards from Land Rover for their outstanding work and customer care records. These range from a trip to France on Concorde for best customer care in 1993, to New York again on Concorde in 1995 for Dealer of the Year to trips to Iceland, Monaco, Kenya and Croatia over the last few years.
Whilst Land Rover encourages dealers to have a corporate specialist, Roger also has a Field Sales specialist to look after the South West Farmers visiting local markets and also the busy farmers at home.
We have a Land Rover Approved Bodyshop at Saltash, with the latest spray booths and paint technology, which is fully approved by Land Rover Insurance. From repairing a minor dent or scratch to a major repair following serious accidents, insurance companies often ask us to collect Land Rovers in order that our skills and special tools can professionally repair owners vehicles.
Roger has now opened a purpose built workshop boasting all the latest state of the art technology and computer systems needed to maintain the Land Rover vehicles, with a new wheel alignment system for 4X4’s.
We have also developed the vehicle showroom and made this nearly double the size, allowing more vehicles to be displayed and viewed in the dry.
The business can look forward to many years with a leading 4x4 manufacturer, one of only a few independently owned Land Rover dealerships, providing customers with the service that they expect, having the flexibility to accommodate their needs, whether an order for 50 vehicles or a used Freelander for the school run. |
